Awards

(May 27th - Oberkommando der Achsenmächte)

(OKA) Generalfeldmarschall PTXL, CinC OKA, announced: " Today in Willemstad the OKA decorated Chief of Staff Xl2dylar with the Grand Cross 1st Class, the highest award in our community for his tremendous job in and around the game.Well deserved.!S Xl2dylar and wear it with pride!"

(OKH) Feldmarschall Tuck, Oberbefehlshaber des Heeres, announced: " Today during the St. Quentin attack, we were initially having a hard time transferring bodies to the defense of the town due to attacks we had in progress. Upon my arrival, I was concerned about AB bunker security, and as I checked each AB, I saw two individuals who were already there. They took it upon themselves to do what was needed, and spent the majority of the attack guarding the AB bunkers, again, without being asked. It is for their efforts and dedication to doing what is needed, such as the "boring bunker duty", that I would like to present to Makio and Wallas the Meritorius Service Cross. Thanks, and congrats!"

Side Command activity

(May 26th - PR Korps)
(PR) How active are the Central High Commands? One can look at sorties, time on mission, ask the playerbase or count how many towns are captured under their command or simply look at how many posts they have in OT. PTXL have 3 posts in May, discussing topics like Legalize marihuana over the whole world! (not taking sides but pointing out that it´s funneh that a Dutch member started the thread to discuss the topic) Can you freeze a ghecko? (You problably can) and Hot Chicks (yes there are). The CinC of the Allies have no posts in may (or 2007), and haven´t been on the Battlefield for almost a week!
In total Axis Central High Command are on the Battlefield much more then their Allies counterpart. 873 versus 411, thats more then twice the presence on the Battlefield!

Central High Command, Allies
ONEMAN, Commander in Chief of the Allied Forces, last played May 19 2007, 81 sorties
BALLEW, Chief of Staff of the Allied Forces, last played May 25 2007, 146 sorties

How to win a campaign

Reposted topic from Playskewls http://forums.battlegroundeurope.com/showthread.php?t=164521

S! Officers and Playerbase

How to win a campaign? I've seen lots of suggestions in many posts recently. From weapon models, Axis exploiting the brigade movement issues, and player base preferences. But none have even mentioned the most significant factor in success. One concept that seems to be completely overlooked by both sides.
Organization. This one concept far outweighs any of the other "suggestions." It is completely controllable by the player base and HC. It can compensate for any imbalances. Without it you can have no hope of winning.
WWII Online rewards organization. It says so as you log on. But how do you get organized? More meetings? Firing individual HC? CRS mandates? Posts on PS?
I'll let everyone decide how to do it, what I'm going to discuss is what is needed in the end of the process of getting organized.
1. Effective Leadership
I originally wrote only "Leadership" but too many of us don’t understand "leadership" from "effective leadership." What does it take to be an effective leader. First you need to have 1 guy in charge. If you are trying to run an army by committee you are doomed. You will try to accomplish 3 different good plans, and fail at all of them. Without a central focus, you lose, NOTHING else you do will matter.
One OIC runs the Army. But that doesn’t mean there isn't a bunch of officers helping them out and particpating on the decison process. One OIC can not do it all by themselves. He must get his officers and player base to work in unison. WWII Online requires an army to choose a target, prepare for the AO, and finish off the town. There are a critical number of players that must be attacking to be successful. If you can not direct your squads and players to work with each other on one goal then your operations will fail.
How do you get your squads and players to work together. First you need one set of goals. The goal needs to be a smart one. If a large minority of the player base think the idea is stupid, they won't show up and your operation will fail (Note - I said "Minority" If you don't get FULL player base support you are severly handicapped). The OIC needs to be respected and liked, if not, the squads and the player base won't show up. Unlike a real army you cannot order anyone to do anything. There is no penalty the HC can enforce to make players guard a table. You must make the squads and players WANT to follow your direction. If your plan is perceived dumb or no one likes you, shout all you want, but no one is coming to help.
If the OIC is not respected for their ideas and liked for the person they are, they cannot be effective leaders. Notice - that there is no mention of Rank in this statement. Rank gives you none of these traits.
Young officers may have the traits necessary to be great OIC's, but because no one knows them, no one respects them. In time, as they string small victories together, they will be able to lead the Army, but for now they may feel very frustrated.

2.) Cooperation between armies and branches
In the "Effective Leadership" section I talked about cooperation among an army. This section is about cooperation among branches.
So every branch on your side now has effective leadership, so why are you not winning? If the branches do not work together your ability to be successful is severely handicapped. Most AO's and DO's require the Airforce and Army to coordinate. If your fighting in the Zeelands you need the Navy as well. Coordination between the branches can be automatic. The Army Attacks, this attracts ground targets for the Bombers to destroy, which attracts Fighters to shoot them down. No large amount of coordination is necessary, everyone shows up because they want to be where the action is.
The cooperation that really matters is the 2 different Armies cooperating with each other. The Majority of the Player Base and Officers belongs to the most important branch, the Armies. The Armies capture towns, hold depots, resupply tanks. There ability to be successful and ONLY their ability determines who wins a campaign.
How does an Army be successful? Two concepts - Infrastructure and Players.
Infrastructure
Infrastructure is what is needed to make an AO succeed. MS need to be setup, HTs need to tow ATGs, Tank Columns need to be formed for resupply and then lead into battle, and the lonely job of interdiction. Squads and Officers provide the Infrastructure. The General player base doesn’t care about these important tasks, they just want to shoot things and almost never help out. So you have a limited number of players who will provide these services, the more on an Attack, the greater your chance of success. Not enough on an Attack, you'll end up with no MSs and flanked by Tanks from nearby cities.
Players
The numbers matter. The more the better. No Brainer here.
Each army "owns" these resources and can choose to use them on their sector or help the other army. How often have you seen one side attacking with the Majority of their forces on ONE Uber Important target, and the other side has half its forces defending the town and the other half fighting some unimportant battle elsewhere? How often have you seen each army attacking towns in their own sector, but neither has enough resources to achieve victory so both armies have failed Attacks over and over?
When BOTH armies cooperate and give squads, officers, and players for joint operations, that side can easily destroy another side that chooses not to invest their resources where it matters most.
3.) "Winning is Contagious"
A quote from my favorite sports coach. It is simple human nature. Sports teams that win have lots of fans, sports teams that lose have very few. Sports teams that win have more money, get better players, win more, get more money, get better players, ect… Sports teams that lose have no money, no money to get better players, and lose. Once your are a loser its hard to become a winner. Once you’re a winner, it is much easier to stay there.
You don't need to win campaigns to be considered a winner. You can win individual battles, do a single great strategic move, coordinate one large operation. You can even "win" if you fail to achieve your objective. Win a few times and you'll get some player support. You then can win more attracting more player support. After a few winning battles you have a real army that is excited to serve.
WWII Online players like to be lead by winners (who wants to follow a loser??) Even the ones who are loyal to a specific side want to win. Winning is fun. Fun means more players log in and for longer. More players means easier to win. Winning is fun.
How do you win?? Look at #1 and #2. Don't look at equipment or technicalities that favor one side or the other only slightly. If you don't have Organization you will lose regardless of any CRS handout you get.

So what is the problem??
If you see a lot of arguments on chat about what target is next or where should these divisions move to, you are probably missing elements in #1.
If you see instances where player X says "I won't fight South of town Y" you are probably having a problem with #2.
If your player base no longer cares, Look no further than #3.

Kriegsmarine Awards

(May 16th - Oberkommando die Kriegsmarine)
(OKM) Grossadmiral Eyeshank, Oberbefehlshaber der Kriegsmarine, announced: " Today is a great day and a day of recognition for the KM. Today we celebrate 2 of our best guys, we all know who they are, so let's congradulate Tony122 and Dwarf007 by presenting them with "The Iron Cross". Dwarf007 was instrumental in making the moves to get 3PD onto the Zeelands and into position to attack Breskins the "crucial" move that has lead us to such success this map. Tony122 have showed us how he makes dominaing the Allied Forces look easy. He has been masterful of his brigade movements and a great liason between the branches. I want to personally thank you guys. Here is a big salute from me!Guys you deserve it."

Iron Cross awarded

(May 15th - Oberkommando der Achsenmächte)
(OKA) Generalfeldmarschall Xl2Dylar, Chief of Staff, OKA, announced: " During my time in game I noticed great things. Lince caught most of the officers doing all the right things and awarded them medals for their efforts. What Lince didn’t realize was someone was also watching him.
Lince receives the Iron Cross 1st Class for his efforts, not only was he working to award the officers for their efforts he was organizing the troops and keeping the flow of battle moving. Well deserved Lince, Congrats!
For similar reasons leading the troops, keeping all on focus toward the common goal I must award Hondo17 the same Iron Cross 1st class medal. Well deserved Hondo17, Congrats!

Pocket of Desperation

(May 13th - Oberkommando der Wehrmacht)
(OKW) The beating of french and british forces in Western Europe continues. A large continent of the British Expeditionary Forces have been cut of from their homeland and fight desperatly together with french resistance pockets to halt 6. Armee´s flanking movement wich started days ago with Breskens, continued along the coast down to Lille and now completely cut off a large chunk of France from the remains. 12. Armee have continued to advance in the south and holds the Meuse, while detachments joined the flanking movement and preprations for Operation Sealion. Morale is reported to be extremely low amongst the Allies and full brigades have surrended to the Axis War machine.

It has been argued that there is an imblance and that the Allies lack High Commanders. A quick look at the rosters shows that this is of course not true, that´s 16 versus 6 on the highest level! Could it be numbers then? France have 219,533 sorties, the BEF 213,861 and Wehrmacht 456,332, that´s an 22938 sortie favour for Axis versus Allies, looking back at previous campaigns it´s not significant. The question remain for some then, what is it? Axis News, believes it´s about squads and morale. A good base of squads for the players breeds dedicated Commanders and good Commanders and strong squads (not nessecarily large) keeps up morale regardless of Campaign outcomes.

The Battle of Antwerp

(May 11th - Oberkommando der Wehrmacht)
(OKW) Following the outbreak of Breskens, the encirclement of the BEF forces in the northern area of operations have continued with a frontal assault on the capitol Antwerp. 6. Armee is on the move to total conquest of Holland while 12. Armee securs France and parts of Belgium, with Brussels on the frontline. During heavy battles today, one soldat managed to pull off an amazing stunt by capturing the Antwerp Airfields bunker sending the british Bomber Command westwards. This was a welcomed break in the fighting for the Capitol as the dense enemy air presence disappeared and Luftwaffe could secure the air space.

After a bloody assult on the Airfield from Schilde, Wehrmacht had to try a different approach to the Airfield and during the time new plans were made, Soldat Airwar managed to make his way to the northern hangers dispite several Vickers guarding the area as well as AI. Right in front of the Royal Airforce taking off and landing and several british infantrymen, Airwar took out an enemy MG tower, rushed the bunker and took it!

The battle of Antwerp raged on for hours with 6. Armee controlling almost 1/4 of the Capitol and holding the forward bases. Luftwaffe had a strong grip on the Royal Airforce and Kriegsmarine managed to position themselves south of Zandvliet, sending barrages of shells on the shores of Antwerp. After dense close-combat fights over the Army bases, Wehrmacht could declare the Capitol of Holland, Antwerp under Axis rule!

Breskens liberated

(MAy 10th - 6. Armee)
(OKW) Following the liberation of the french held dutch town of Breskens, french and british troops found themselves on the run. 6. Armee
with the help of a detachment from 12. Armee, Kregsmarine and Luftwaffe, have continued the push into Belgium racing to cut off Antwerpen and the remaining british forces. Soldat Horny77 reported that he worked for almost an hour to get the spawnable depot in Breskens and after the cap he took the docks and the rest is history.

Paratroopers

(May 9th - Cornered Rat Software)
(CRS) Cornered Rat Doc explains. " This one is impossible so far to replicate. We could maybe spend all year trying, because the precise parameters are unknown and there are so many variables, or stumble across it in 5 miuntes. Either way, it's a total crap shoot and we don't have that kind of time to spend chasing something we cannot reliably hope to isolate. We have to find it however. We need the help of everyone that can give us feedback when it happens to them. Kind of like a report you fill out and send to us. We're dead serious about wanting to fix this right fricken now.I'll tell you what we need at the bottom of this post. As far as what constitutes the bug itself, when it happens, enemy players see an invisible transport plane parked at their spawn point with enemy paratroopers on it. Only there's no plane. Just the paratroops sitting there suspended above the ground. When they shoot them, the paratroopers flying along on THEIR front end, off in the sky somewhere, happy as clams ... all of a sudden die from an unknown cause. Unknown to them at least." Goto Playskewls to read on what to do and what to report if you find yourself in one of these situations (Se picture below: Picture by Kommandeur Deitrich, worked over by Svedala).

Royal Navy official admits to camping

(May 7th - Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine)
(OKM) For years, there have been a Gentlemen´s agreement between the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine and Allied High Command, not to camp eachothers spawns. The Royal Navy admits to not following that now. Captain Horny77 brought our attention: " Point is there are LIMITED DDs in game. Your a High Commander and should have more respect for the game than to spawn camp the DD point of spawn. If your there for the Aircraft Go NW where u can not see the spawn point. If the Town is AOed there is no camping. However it was NOT AOed.When I was MarNat CO and someone in my command did that they would be off the Orbat in 5 seconds flat."
High Commander Brusini, Royal Navy: " In my defense I want to state (again) that I don't camp Vliss for the EDD kills. If I'd go for KM kills I'd camp Helle too, and I don't. The proof is that I won't engage any enemy sea forces unless they have a clear will of attack me. TTs aren't in that category unless they fire, but EDDs are.Oh, and I don't make them spawn. It's a WWIIOL style of blockade."

The Naval Agreement
No DD will come within visual range of an opposing deep water Naval Base DD
spawn point for the purpose of engaging spawning EDDs unless there is an active
AO placed on the EDD spawn point city in which case there are no rules. If
passing within visual range of the EDD spawn point, as a requirement to attack a
target or another city, should a EDD spawn in at the spawn point the first shot
will be given to the EDD before fire is returned unless it is clear that the EDD
has had substantial time to evaluate his environment (30 seconds) or if the EDD
is clearly underway (20 knots +) or well off of the spawn point itself and if
any of those conditions are open to debate the EDD will be given first
shot.

Winner of the old OKW Forum

(May 5th - PR Korps)
(PR) As an era comes to an end, it is time to decide who won? Noone is shocked over #1 Kmarkl (5731 posts) and the runner up Grazi (4164 posts), two students with two much spare time on their hands. However, you cannot dispute that Generalleutnant Svedala won two awards, most edited post and most viewed, Axis News was edited 2451 times in total and viewed 19453 times not counting the other newspaper as well as all archived editions. Congratulations to all!

Congratulations Kmarkl, not only did you beat me and the famouse italian, You won the contest for most posts on the old OKW forum. Thoughts?
Wow I have no life.. albeit comparing my post count to those in the playschool forums I don't feel so bad about it.
How did you do it?
Mostly by bumping my squad recruitment post and generally being a pain in the bum-bum.
What is your strategy for Playskewls?
I have no strategy for the Playskewls because I don't plan on posting much there. Why? I can't say as it would most likely be an AoC & TOS violation.

Battle of Vlissingen

(May 5th - Oberkommando der Wehrmacht)
(OKW) The Battle for Holland continues. Wehrmacht have clashed with enemy forces in over the Zeelands and area around Antwerp, and noone wants to give in. The french forces hold Breskens but focus on holding the south against the advancing 12. Armee, and the British Expeditionary Forces tried an outbreak around Roosendal creating a pocket from Steenbergen to Kats. 6. Armee supported by Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe have kept strongpoints around the Zeelands and gained the valuable Airfield of Vlissingen to gain the advantage in the skies which is required to continue the push towards Antwerp. Today french and british forces tried to retake the Airfield with the Royal Navy and Airforce but despite deploying a detatchment of SAS paratroopers over the town and sending in waves of regular infantry they failed, suffering huge casualities.
